| As Ticky, Jones, MrsPrestwichRed143 & BettyBlue have all raised the idea of doing something to fill the gigless 'bow void, how about chucking a few ideas about here? Stuff already suggested: - Seeing an 'elbow worthy' band at a smaller venue in Manchester, such as the Night & Day, Roadhouse, Ruby Lounge etc. - Maybe go for a bevvy in the Temple (if we give the band plenty of notice to get the restraining orders in place ) Timescale mentioned: 12 months or so, halfway through the new album wait. It'd also give further flung folk a chance to get organised... MT & MMT? Winning the lottery and booking the lads as party band was also mentioned, but perhaps we should focus on the more likely options for now... _________________ You patched me up and sent me on my way Moderator

| Temple would be cosy, we would have to be a very select group there, unless we spilled out onto the stairs and street. Big Hands has a bit more space. It couldn't be just at a gig, especially if it was Liam, as we wouldn't want to talk then. |

I quite like the idea of an Elbow sight-seeing tour.
As a possible sightseeing suggestion, how about the door on the front of "Asleep In The Back" ? Does anybody know where that is exactly?
I think I read somewhere a few years back that, although it looks like it's just a shabby door in a ruinous warehouse, it's actually the entrance to a recording studio or something like that. I have it in my head that it's somewhere near Piccadilly Railway Station off towards Ancoats. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
There are a lot of warehousey-style buildings round that neck of the woods hence a lot of potential candidates and red herrings. That door would be a good place to stand in front of, grinning strangely with a mad gleam in your eye. Not exactly Salford Lads' Club, but hey.
As an aside, MrsW and I did a similar little sightseeing tour of our own a little while back based around the TV series Life On Mars, much of which was filmed around the Northern Quarter. Mrs W had stumbled across a "Life On Mars" shooting locations link a while back, after we'd noticed that there were loads of placemarks on Google Earth relating to where certain scenes were shot ("Canal chase. Series 1. Episode 3" etc) with Sat Nav info and everything, so we did a bit of a LOM day in Manchester for a laugh. That was good fun. Standing next to the horrible concrete police HQ was strangely satisfying (it's actually in Stockport, trivia fans). _________________ Is this making sense?

| I was thinking a pretty while about Elbow-Meetings and I was dreaming about some kind of "Elbow-Fanclub" but I'm afraid it would not work for me...(too far away and not enough Germans...) _________________ ...with my head so full, so full of fractured pictures... | Hey TL, Sparkly travelled from the Netherlands so at least you might get another European fan at least. There's always Jones, who represents two EU states! Maybe it's one for you and ElbowFreak to think about making a trip of it? Anyways, here's a few more ideas: - Having got the 135 to Bury, go to Katsouris' Greek cafe at the Market (or maybe their other spot on Deansgate). #Goths and Greeks# - Go have your picture taken at Bury Sixth Form College - Pace Picadilly in a pack _________________ You patched me up and sent me on my way Moderator

| This is extremely tenuous, but I'm going to run with it. There is a plumber called Garvey in a retail unit not far from Bury market. We wondered whether it could be a relative; an uncle or cousin perhaps? How many Garveys could there be in Bury? Has Guy ever popped in to buy some discount guttering or a new stopcock? Anyway, there's a sign that says "Garvey" that you could stand under and have your photograph taken. And if the proposal involves being in Bury, then why not? Pathetic, really. _________________ Is this making sense?

| I'd definitely be up for it, having got there as everyone was leaving the pub (including the band ) prior to Bridgewater and didn't make it at all to the meet-up last week. Does anyone know where Elle and Bo are hanging out these days? Possibly one to include in the "tour"... _________________ when out of a doorway the tentacles stretch of a song that I know and the world moves in slow-moLast.fm |
